We have have two great workshops happening this year – Intro to Knitting with Mona, and Spindling with Lee. You have to register for these, there is a maximum participation for them.
The great news is, we also have a fabulous seminar on Fleece Prep happening just after lunch that is being held by our own wonderful Gail Kasprick. This seminar is FREE! We’re going to watch Gail start with the very basics of a raw fleece (right off the sheep). She’ll show us how to skirt the fleece, wash the fleece, pick the fleece, and even teach us how to prep the clean fibre for your next step, be it spinning or felting. This is invaluable information, and will be so much fun! Her seminar starts at 1 pm, right after the winner of the Wool Show is announced, so don’t be late!
All information on our workshops can be found on the workshop page on our site here, you must register for the others so you are counted in.

Have you ever thought it would be fun to dive into the wonderful world of processing a fleece from sheep to sweater, but weren’t sure where to start? You can start at the Blue Hills Fibre Festival on June 6 at 1:00 pm. We will be offering a free presentation on the basics of choosing, skirting, washing and processing a fleece to the point where it is ready to spin or felt or whatever other creative use you may have for it. We will cover the basics of washing fleece, including the ever mysterious fermented suint method. You will learn the basics of what type of sheep produce what type of fleece, what to look for in a fleece, and different ways to wash and dry the fleece. We will show you that the job can be done with a minimum of investment in expensive equipment, and that it can be just as much fun getting the fleece ready to use as it is to use it! No need to sign up. There is no fee. Just be at the hall at 1 pm and join the fun!
Well the festival is almost here and we have a great line-up for you! We have 19 vendors, some excellent workshops, some lovely fleeces, great food, and even a place to sit and spin :)

We are getting ever closer to spring and as the snow melts our thoughts turn to gardening and long bike rides on summer evenings. We are also ramping up for the festival!
We have some news items for you. First, all our vendor spots are now FULL. If you have already sent in an application, all you need to do is send payment, but we will not be accepting new applications for indoor space! We have total of 18 vendors this year (up from 12 last year). So exciting!
Also, our workshop descriptions are now posted HERE. We will open registration on April 6! Note that class sizes are limited so register early to secure your spot! We will start a waiting list if the workshops fill up.
Lastly, with the weather warming up this week, it will soon be time to shear sheep! We hope to have a variety of sheep fleeces in our show and auction! If you are a sheep farmer, or interested in buying raw fleece at our festival, see more info HERE.
Spread the word. June will be here before you know it!
